A note to recent graduates…

I would suggest taking this article and talking about it in interviews, if you find someone wary of hiring a new degree card carrying member of the “Recent Grad” club.

…this should be a reminder that hiring a young designer should not be seen as hiring as someone without experience, but hiring someone with potential.

that is a glass half full perspective of course. When the chips are down, young designers are perceived as a larger risk than opportunity simply because they are unknown quantities in a time of instability.

Clearly there is a perceived discrepancy between school work and ‘real’ work. I wonder if it is school programs or simply based on the individual. I wonder if that feeling will ever change…

In any case, if you don’t cultivate the youth, you are killing the future. Perhaps it would be appropriate to have a little Whitney Houston “Greatest love of all” going on in the background while reading the article to get the full atmospheric effect.
